Topsy-Turvy Monday

Closing Technical Market Analysis for Mon March 18th 2019

The markets had a topsy-turvy day on Monday. The day started out with gaps up, rallied, reaching a high of 2835.41 on the S&P 500, and 7348.69 Nasdaq 100. They bounced, came down, reaching its lows during the noon hour to 2821.99 S&P 500 and 7265.63 Nasdaq 100. They consolidated the all afternoon, rolled over slightly in the last fifteen minutes, bounced, and closed to the upside.  

Net on the day, the Dow was up 65.23 at 25,914.10, just 11 points off the high. The S&P 500 was up 10.46 to 2832.94, 2 points off its high. The Nasdaq 100 was up 19.29 to 7326.28, 5 points off its high.

TheTechTrader.com board was very mixed on Monday, but there were quite a few gainers. Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) was up 29.79 to 1742.15, Apple Inc. (AAPL) up 1.90 to 188.02, Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) 1.98 to 363.44, and Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (ISRG) 1.28 to 559.49.

Other stocks to the upside DocuSign, Inc. (DOCU) up 1.28 to 57.75, Puma Biotechnology, Inc. (PBYI) 3.20 to 42.37, U.S. Silica Holdings, Inc. (SLCA) 1.19 to 16.73, Valero Energy Corporation (VLO) 1.67 to 86.75, Okta, Inc. (OKTA) 3.66 to 82.87, HUYA Inc. (HUYA) 1.12 to 27.83, Iridium Communications Inc. (IRDM) 1.10 to 26.10, Acacia Communications, Inc. (ACIA) 1.76 to 55.93, and YY Inc. (YY) 3.45 to 86.17.

On the downside, Facebook, Inc. (FB) was down 5.51 to 160.47, Tesla, Inc. (TSLA) down 5.94 to 269.49, Square, Inc. (SQ) 1.43 to 75.22, and Amarin Corporation plc (AMRN) 1.03 to 19.30.

Checking TheTechTrader.com percent-gain leaderboard, Catabasis Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (CATB) eked out 64 cents, or 10%, to 7.35. Atossa Genetics Inc. (ATOS) bounced 89 cents, or 24%, to 4.40, on 25.4 million shares. China Internet Nationwide Financial Services Inc. (CIFS) gained 25 cents, or 10%, to 3.01, on 1.5 million shares. Smart Sand, Inc. (SND) advanced 68 cents, or 16%, to 4.67, on 1.1 million shares.

The Green Organic Dutchman Holdings Ltd. (TGODF) climbed 41 cents, or 12%, to 3.82, on 3.2 million shares. Digital Turbine, Inc. (APPS) bounced its way up 33 cents, or 12%, to 3.39, on 2 million shares. Atossa Genetics Inc. (ATOS) closed up 89 cents, or 24%, to 4.40, on 25.4 million shares. Akari Therapeutics, Plc (AKTX) ran 49 cents, or 12%, to 4.57, on 2.6 million shares.

Daré Bioscience, Inc. (DARE) soared 1.20, or 131%, to 2.10, on 50 million shares.

Aclaris Therapeutics, Inc. (ACRS) ran 1.15, or 20%, to 6.78, on 1.7 million shares. PhaseBio Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (PHAS) ran 2.51, or 67%, to 6.23, on 6.75 million shares. American Midstream Partners, LP (AMID) moved up 1.14, or 28 1/2%, to 5.14, on 8 million shares.   

Dermira, Inc. (DERM) jumped 5.77, or 84%, to 12.61, 43 million shares. Village Farms International, Inc. (VFF) snapped back 2.02, or 14%, to 16.33, on 3.4 million shares.

Among other gainers, Okta, Inc. (OKTA) was up 3.66 to 82.87, Edwards Lifesciences Corporation (EW) up 11.14 to 190.89, StoneCo Ltd. (STNE) 2.09 to 34.60, Essent Group Ltd. (ESNT) 2.41 to 46.63, MongoDB, Inc. (MDB) 3.75 to 137.98, Magenta Therapeutics, Inc. (MGTA) 1.16 to 18.46, Iridium Communications Inc. (IRDM) 1.10 to 26.10, and The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (GS) 4.21 to 202.47.

Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, the indices gapped up, bounced around, came down, consolidated in the afternoon, rolled over slightly, bounced, and closed positive on the session.
