Markets had turn-around Tuesday as indices opened to the upside and worked their way higher all session. The S&P 500 opened 10 points off Monday’s low and the Nasdaq 100 opened nearly 18 points off its low. The news that trade worries may lessen sent the stock running.
The day started out with gaps up, the S&P 500 came down, bounced formed a wedge, pulled back, rallied to 2787.75, round over, rallied to new session highs at 2794.75, consolidated, ran up to 7284.92, came 3 waves down, consolidated, rallied, and then coiled. During the noon hour, the Nasdaq 100 rolled over, and then formed wedges, rallied, came down 3 waves down, moved up, consolidated through the noon hour, popped, formed horizonal waves and coils that stretched out across the afternoon. The S&P 500, which worked its way up to a high of 2801.25, and Nasdaq 100 to 7169.91, closed at the highs for the day.
Net on the day, the Dow was up 512.40 at 25,332.18. The S&P 500 was up 58.82 at 2803.27. The Nasdaq 100 was up 188.73 at 7166.75.
Advance-declines were 4 to 1 positive on the New York Stock Exchange, and 3 to 1 positive on the Nasdaq 100. Up/down volume was almost 5 1/2 to 1 positive on New York, total volume 3.6 billion shares traded. The Nasdaq 100 traded 2.2 billion shares and had a flat volume ratio.
TheTechTrader.com board was all green on Tuesday. Amazon.com, Inc. (AMZN) was up 36.86 to 1729.56, Alphabet Inc. (GOOG) up 16.82 to 1053.05, Apple Inc. (AAPL) 6.34 to 179.64, Facebook, Inc. (FB) 3.35 to 167.50, and Netflix, Inc. (NFLX) 16.77 to 353.40.
Microsoft Corporation (MSFT) gained 3.32 to 123.16, Intel Corporation (INTC) popped 1.33 to 44.79.
Tesla, Inc. (TSLA) jumped 14.63 to 193.60, NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA) bounced 9.22 to 143.00, Intuitive Surgical, Inc. (ISRG) climbed 16.16 to 474.43.
To the upside, other point-plus winners included Twitter, Inc. (TWTR) up 1.67 to 36.10, NXP Semiconductors N.V. (NXPI) up 5.00 to 94.63, SolarEdge Technologies, Inc. (SEDG) 1.39 to 54.65, Kirkland Lake Gold Ltd. (KL) 1.31 to 37.69, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD) 1.99 to 29.57, uniQure N.V. (QURE) 6.10 to 70.74, National Beverage Corp. (FIZZ) 2.63 to 49.57, DocuSign, Inc. (DOCU) 2.37 to 52.94, Square, Inc. (SQ) 2.77 to 63.39, Cisco Systems, Inc. (CSCO) 1.45 to 53.23, and Repligen Corporation (RGEN) 3.91 to 73.40 were among many other winners on Tuesday.
Marijuana stocks did well on Tuesday. Tilray, Inc. (TLRY) up 1.84 to 36.50, Cronos Group Inc. (CRON) gained 84 cents to 14.42, and Canopy Growth Corporation (CGC) up 2.27 to 41.00.
The Direxion Daily S&P Biotech Bull 3X ETF (LABU) closed up 3.38 to 43.00.
To the downside, there were no stocks down on our board as much as a point.
Checking TheTechTrader.com percent-gain leaderboard, SolarWindow Technologies, Inc. (WNDW) gained 64 cents, or 20%, to 3.77. Orion Energy Systems, Inc (OESX) bounced 48 cents, or 24%, to 2.48, on 2.9 million shares. Key Energy Services, Inc. (KEG) thrust 26 cents, or 14%, to 2.06. Digital Turbine, Inc. (APPS) advanced 61 cents, or 17%, to 4.29, on 6.3 million shares.
Castor Maritime Inc. (CTRM) moved up 1.61, or 38%, on 7.2 million shares. ION Geophysical Corporation (IO) rose 1.49, or 20%, to 8.80.
Mattel, Inc. (MAT) climbed 1.13, or 12%, to 10.78, on 16 million shares. Continental Resources, Inc. (CLR) eked out 5.22, or 15%, to 40.23, on 7 million shares. Soliton, Inc. (SOLY) snapped back 3.34, or 22%, to 18.49, on 5.5 million shares. Fossil Group, Inc. (FOSL) rocketed 1.27, or 12%, to 11.52, on 1.8 million shares. Mirati Therapeutics, Inc. (MRTX) advanced 8.83, or 10%, to 98.03, on 2.8 million shares.
Among other gainers, Beyond Meat, Inc. (BYND) was up 7.25 to 103.41, Coupa Software Incorporated (COUP) up 9.94 to 112.42, Adobe Inc. (ADBE) 9.68 to 268.71, The Trade Desk, Inc. (TTD) 25.49 to 222.91, Alibaba Group Holding Limited (BABA) 4.24 to 154.15, and Xilinx, Inc. (XLNX) 4.60 to 106.90.
