Closing Technical Market Analysis for Mon December 3rd 2012
The stock market indices started off the week on a negative note, although they started off the session with big gaps to the upside, especially on Nasdaq 100. The NDX actually went to new rally highs to just under 2700 at 2695.04. That resistance proved formidable as they rolled over the rest of the session in a down channel, closing near the session lows.
Net on the day, the Dow was down 59.98 at 12,965.60, 122 points off the high. The S&P 500 was down 6.72 at 1409.46, a point off the low. The Nasdaq 100 was down 6.04 at 2671.84.
So all of these reversed and closed near the session lows going away.
Advance-declines were 3 to 2 negative on the New York Stock Exchange, and 13 to 11 negative on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 2 to 1 negative on New York, with total volume of 638 million shares. Nasdaq traded over 1.6-7 billion and had a little less that 2 to 1 negative volume ratio.
TheTechTrader.com board was mixed, with some outstanding gainers and losers. Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Inc. (GMCR) jumped another 1.14 to 37.81, reaching as high as 38.65 during the session. SodaStream International Ltd. (SODA) leapt another 1.31 to 41.19, and traded as high as 41.58. So both those stocks had a solid session today.
Sarepta Therapeutics, Inc. (SRPT) snapped back 57 cents to 29.90, and First Solar, Inc. (FSLR) gained 51 cents to 27.50, reaching as high as 27.98, the highest it’s been in months.
In addition, there were some outstanding low-priced stocks. Sequans Communications S.A. (SQNS) spiked up 82 cents to 2.30, or 55%, on 1.1 million shares, a 2000% increase in volume. Cleantech Solutions International, Inc. (CLNT) gained 86 cents to 4.86, or 21.5%, on 1.7 million shares. Neuralstem, Inc. (CUR) popped 24 cents to 1.49, or 19%, on 4.3 million shares. Cyclacel Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (CYCC) advanced 1.04 cents to 6.21, or 20%. Caesars Entertainment Corporation (CZR) ran 60 cents to 6.70, or 10%.
Other gainers of note included Deckers Outdoor Corp. (DECK), up 4.05 to 42.34, or 10.55%, on 6.4 million shares. SouFun Holdings Ltd. (SFUN) was up 1.83 to 23.38. PHI Inc. (PHII), helicopter transportation service gained 1.94 to 31.99, The GEO Group, Inc. (GEO) 1.57 to 29.77, and Pharmacyclics Inc. (PCYC) 2.88 to 55.93.
On the downside, Amazon Inc. (AMZN) lost 1.72 to 250.33, and Google Inc. (GOOG) was down 3.12 to 695.25. Apple Inc. (AAPL) managed to gain 91 cents to 586.19.
There weren’t many point-plus losers on our board despite the down move today.
We’ll see how it goes on tomorrow.
